Baby Update

So, been at the hospital for a little over a week now. Let's start with the good news:

  1. Baby boy looks strong and healthy. During his biophysical profile today he scored an 8/8-which is amazing at this point. This means he had a perfect score in fetal breathing (which is super good at this point-this is usually the one that babies this early miss), fetal tone, baby movement and amniotic fluid. They will be repeating this test weekly, then every few weeks also measuring to see how big baby is (they measured last week-2lbs-so likely won't measure until either next week or the following).
  2. We made it to 28 weeks! A baby born at 28 weeks has much better odds (although a long NICU stay) so this is a huge mile marker to be pass. I still will do everything I can to keep this baby in as long as possible, but happy to have gotten to this point as well.
  3. My BP has been looking awesome. 6 days with no spikes, so the combination of meds is right on.
So, now for the not so good news:
  1. I will not be going home until this baby is born. I really thought if BPs evened out and baby kept looking good I'd get to at least go home on bed rest. But unfortunately not. They worry that everything can look perfect one min and then go downhill very quickly. So I'm here. Trying my best to stay positive about that, but it was a pretty big blow.
  2. I will be delivering this baby boy no later than 34 weeks. I was hoping that if things kept looking good I would be able to hold off until baby boy was full term, but the Dr. said there was NO WAY we would go past the 34 week mark. Being that I delivered Em at like 41 weeks, this is super scary to me, but I am trusting my doctors.
So, there is the full baby and mommy update. Em and Chris are still doing well. It's so difficult to be away from them, but they are bonding and being super supportive! We had a fun Easter hiding Easter eggs in my hospital room-trying to make the best of it all!

Not What We Expected

Not what we expected, I guess is an understatement. So, Wednesday night I took my BP at home (I have been monitoring it since my last appointment-with no issues-since it read a little high) and got a reading of 160/100. Pretty scary. So I called the doctor, who had me rest for a bit, take it again and it did come down a bit. I was told just to come in to the office tomorrow. Well, I did and the BP shot up to 214/110-super scary. So they had me go right to the hospital...which is were I've been ever since. Seems like the high BP is pregnancy induced, and should clear up when I'm no longer pregnant. Issue is, I'm only 27 weeks pregnant, so that is a big problem. When I got to the hospital, I was given magnesium and steroid shots to help the baby develop quicker (both physically awful and emotionally draining). And am on bed rest in the hospital until further notice. The good news is, it seems like we got the right dose of meds going (for now) and my BPs have all been manageable and the baby looks strong and is growing well. At this point we have set up 2 week goals (first get to 28, then 30, 32 and then 34) as the baby get so much stronger each week. Sounds like 34 is the longest they will want to let me go, but we'll wait and see. The idea of having a baby so soon is super scary, but we are praying a lot and have a great team of doctors. I think what is most difficult is Em as so such a normal pregnancy as was this up until now, so just taking some time to process! But we love this baby so much already, and will do whatever it takes.

Em and Chris are being troopers for sure! I'm so proud of both of them (and miss them terribly each night!). But we will get through. Thanks for thoughts and prayers!

Another laid back weekend! These next few were are pretty busy, she we just enjoyed the down time! I had big plans to work on the nursery...but that didn't happen. I did get a bunch of baby clothes washed and the closet cleared out, so that's at least a start! Right now we have baby stuff ALL over, and it is stressing me out! Some is the nursery, some in the basement, some in the garage. I really need to consolidate and see what we still need!! I'm still feeling pretty good, just getting tiered a lot quicker than normal, oh and feel totally huge but I guess that is what happens at this point. Only a week away from the 3rd trimester!! CRAZY!

Em was a little under the weather this week. Tuesday she got a pretty high fever out of nowhere, so I was home with her on Wednesday (she seemed fine by the morning) so went back to school Thursday. Chicken pox is going around her class (she has been vaccinated) and on Friday her teacher thought she may still have a few. We kept an eye on it over the weekend, but nothing ever came of the 3 spots she had (I still think they may  have been bug bites?) and she had lots of energy all weekend! We were so glad to have such good weather on Saturday and spent lots of time outside with sidewalk chalk and bubbles! Sunday rain was not so fun...but we managed to make the best of it!

Pretty in Pink!
Painting time!

Nothing big to report! Em is cute. What else is new.
Wacky Wednesday at School.
Emmy got out of bed the other night (totally sleep walking) and ended up sleeping on Dad. He didn't have the heart to send her back to bed.
Em choose a carrot (raw and unpeeled) for her nightly snack. She only got a few bites in before stating "this tastes like dirt". No kidding.
Yikes. How many more weeks?

Quick Baby Post

Yikes, look at that bump! 25 weeks, but measuring 2 weeks ahead. Had my doctor appoint yesterday, baby boy was squirming all around with a strong and steady heartbeat of 155. I'm doing pretty well, but my blood pressure was a little elevated, so need to monitor it at home too and be sure it stays close to normal range. Doctor told me just to take time to relax...always difficult for a working mother (or any mother to be honest!!) Going to try to take a little extra time for myself this weekend!

Still feeling pretty good, slowing down a little bit (earlier than I did with Em for sure!) I was walking on the treadmill last night (since the weather has been super crappy) and I usually try to go for 30 mins and a pretty good pace. Last night I made it to 20, and was just done. Not sure if it was an off day or just getting to a point things are more difficult. Hopefully with a little rest over the weekend I'll be back to my normal self!
